1. God Sees You: The Story of Hagar

Key Scripture: Genesis 16:13 – “You are the God who sees me.”

Lesson:
Hagar was a servant, mistreated, used, and then cast out — but God saw her. He met her in her distress and gave her a future.

Takeaway:

  • God sees your pain and responds with care.

  • Your story matters to Him.

Reflection:

  • Write: “God sees me when…” and complete the sentence multiple times.

2. Beauty from Ashes

Key Scripture: Isaiah 61:3 – “...to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes…”

Lesson:
God specializes in turning pain into purpose. Abuse leaves ashes — but God brings restoration, joy, and new beginnings.

Takeaway:

  • The abuse done to you is not the end of your story.

  • God can rebuild what was broken.

Activity:

  • Create a collage or journal page of your “ashes” and then overlay God’s promises.

3. You Are Not to Blame

Key Scripture: John 9:2–3 – “Who sinned...?” Jesus answered, “Neither…”

Lesson:
Like the blind man in John 9, many abuse victims wonder: Was it my fault? Jesus makes it clear — suffering is not always the result of your sin.

Takeaway:

  • Abuse is never your fault.

  • God doesn’t blame you for someone else’s evil.

Reflection:

  • Write down and release false guilt. Burn or tear the paper as a symbol of freedom.

4. God Hears Your Cry

Key Scripture: Exodus 3:7 – “I have indeed seen the misery of my people... I have heard them crying out... and I am concerned.”

Lesson:
God heard the cries of the Israelites under oppression — and He hears yours, too.

Takeaway:

  • God is listening, and He is moved to act.

  • You are not crying into the void.

Prayer Activity:

  • Write or speak a lament to God — honest and raw — just like David did in the Psalms.

5. Jesus and the Woman Caught in Adultery

Key Scripture: John 8:10–11 – “Neither do I condemn you...”

Lesson:
Though the woman was publicly shamed, Jesus stood by her, defended her dignity, and offered freedom — not condemnation.

Takeaway:

  • Jesus covers your shame with grace.

  • You don’t have to live under the labels others gave you.

Reflection:

  • List the negative labels you’ve been given. Replace each with a word God uses to describe you.

6. From Victim to Victor

Key Scripture: Romans 8:37 – “In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”

Lesson:
Your identity is not “abused woman” — your identity is “beloved daughter” and “conqueror in Christ.”

Takeaway:

  • You are strong, not because of what happened to you, but because of who walks with you.

  • Victory starts with identity.

Activity:

  • Speak aloud your identity in Christ. Example: “I am chosen. I am whole. I am strong.”

7. The Power of Boundaries (Jesus Set Them Too)

Key Scripture: Luke 4:28–30 – Jesus walked away from the crowd intending to harm Him.

Lesson:
Even Jesus walked away from harmful people. Setting boundaries isn’t unloving — it’s wise and godly.

Takeaway:

  • You are allowed to protect your peace, safety, and well-being.

  • Boundaries are biblical.

Activity:

  • Identify where you need new or stronger boundaries.

  • Pray for courage and wisdom to implement them.

8. You Are Being Renewed

Key Scripture: 2 Corinthians 4:16 – “Though outwardly we are wasting away, inwardly we are being renewed day by day.”

Lesson:
Healing might feel slow, but God is renewing your soul daily — even in invisible ways.

Takeaway:

  • Trust the process of renewal.

  • There’s grace for every step.

Reflection:

  • List signs of growth (big or small) in your healing journey.
